Plan a Summer Getaway that Won't Break the Bank

Posted by vpfsnews on May 26, 2009 at 4:46 PM

Summer vacation season is quickly approaching, and like many people, you may be seeking fun yet affordable travel destinations this year.  Value Place is pleased to offer a few suggestions below.  With a little research and a splash of creativity, you can craft a memorable vacation that won't bust your budget.  Have a great trip!

Value Place's Top 3 Budget-Friendly Vacation Tips:

1.      Enjoy a "Staycation":  When was the last time you enjoyed time off at home?  Here's your chance to complete those "I'll get to it someday" projects, visit hometown attractions or simply kick back with a tall glass of iced tea and relax.

2.      Volunteer:  Find a cause you believe in and help out in your community or someone else's.  Several churches and schools organize summer mission trips -- many at little to no cost to you.

3.      Road Trip!  Find a Value Place, where you can stay a week for what most places charge for one night (plus, you can save money on meals by doing your own cooking in the kitchen in your room).  Scope out some frugal yet fun activities in the area, and off you go!  Places to consider:

·        Loveland, CO:  Enjoy unique shops, restaurants and outdoor fun.  Loveland is known as the "Gateway to the Rockies," and Rocky Mountain National Park is just a short drive away.

·        Kansas City, MO:  Catch a Royals game, peruse the Plaza or visit the zoo or Oceans of Fun -- in KC, there's so much to do!  For the ultra budget-conscious, here's a list of free attractions.

·        Corpus Christi, TX:  If it's not a vacation without a beach, this one has your name all over it.

·        Memphis, TN:  Catch a bite of barbecue and a bit of the blues on Beale Street, or Elvis it up at Graceland.  Coupons, deals and free things to do can be found at http://www.memphistravel.com
